Juhani participated in the Second Baltic Conference on Human Language Technologies (HLT'2005) (including the Tutorials Day) in Tallinn, Estonia.

Rosa, Ville, and Juhani participated in the 10th International Conference Speech and Computer (Specom2005) in Patras, Greece. Activities included an organized excursion to the famous Olympia, an unorganized sight seeing to the top of a nearly 2 km high mountain (freezing in short pants). Being chased for hundreds of meters by an overprotective goat in a lovely olive grove was probably the funniest experience. Adventure per day keeps you going.

The Joensuu Speech and Image Processing Unit speech researchers are organizing a National PUMS Seminar in Joensuu.

The Joensuu Speech and Image Processing Unit participated in the NIST 2006 Speaker Recognition Evaluation. The NIST speaker recognition evaluations are an ongoing series of international speaker recognition contests organized by the National Institute for Standards and Technology.
