Travelling


Joensuu is easily reachable from Helsinki both by plane and train but we recommend you to arrive by plane due to the conveniency.


Joensuu by plane

Flights from Helsinki to Joensuu take about one hour and the prices for return flights (aproximately 90 €) are cheaper than train tickets when booked early enough. Furthermore, one-way tickets are generally a way more expensive than return flights. Helsinki-Joensuu connections are operated by Finnair

From Joensuu airport to the city centre

An airport bus (fee 5 €) operates between Joensuu airport and city centre from Monday to Friday.



The bus waits for plane arrival and on the way back, the bus leaves from bus station 50 min before takeoff. Route for the airport bus

Taxis operating in the Joensuu region are on call at the taxi stand in front of the airport during the scheduled arrival times. The fee to the city centre is 20-30 €. In case you need to call a taxi, the number is 0601 10100


Joensuu by train

Travel from Helsinki to Joensuu by train takes approximately 4.5 hours. A one-way fare is approximately 65 € but from time to time special offers take a place. You can check the timetables and prices from web pages of Finnish railroads

Please note that Helsinki – Joensuu return flight may be cheaper than the train, if booked early enough.

If you are required a Schengen visa for travel to Finland, you can request an invitation letter after registration to the conference. Visa application forms


Travelling to Stockholm

If you are attending ICPR or just want to have a mini-holiday in Stockholm before travelling back home, you are the most welcome to join to our Excursion to Stockholm.

If you prefer to organize your travel to Stockholm by yourself, you are recommended to take a look on flights operated by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and Finnair or cruises operated by Viking Line and Silja Line. Both cruise lines include on board services such as bars, restaurants, different types of cabins, and duty-free shopping.
