What constitutes the field of Technologies for Development and Education? What are the relevant research topics in the field? Introduction to the research topics of the Technologies for Development and Educational research focus area at the School of Computing, UEF. The themes of the course are linked to the research topics of post-graduate students and post-doc researchers of the Technologies for Development and Education research focus area. The content of the course varies from one year to another. In Fall 2010, the topics covered during the course are: ICT for HIV/AIDS education, Web2.0 tools in higher education, Use of ICT in value education and ICT in mathematics education.
To learn the contemporary and relevant research questions, problems and themes in the research field of Technologies for Education and Development. To get acquainted with research topics and research and development projects of the Technologies for Development and Education research focus area of the School of Computing, UEF.
The course is an advanced level (e.g. master level) Computer Science course. The course is specifically aimed to following student groups:
- IMPIT and CIMET students
- students studying in the IT teacher/Technologies for Development and Education master degree studies
- Computer Science master students who wish to include the course as a part of the selective advanced studies in Computer Science
- doctoral students at the School of Computing
The course is an online course, which means that there is very little contact teching sessions. Jarkko Suhonen (jarkko.suhonen@[REMOVE_SPAM]uef.fi) is the co-ordinator of the course. The course consits of the following four study modules, which are facilitated by PhD students of the Technologies for Education and Development research focus area.
- Module 0: (Short) Introduction to the research focus area of Technologies for Development and Education at School of Computing
- Module 1: Affordable technologies for e-/m-learning in developing countries
- Module 2: Web2.0 tools in higher education
- Module 3: Use of ICT in value education
- Module 4: ICT in mathematics education
The Moodle platform, http://moodle.uef.fi/uef/login/index.php of UEF will be used during the course. The Moodle will include learning materials, course exercises and basic tools for communication. - The course will be graded by using the scale of PASS/FAIL.
- The course is passed by first succesfully completing the Study Modules 1-4. The details how to pass individual modules will be explained during the course.
- The students will also write a course report where they will summarise the whole course. The report needs to be submitted latest January 11, 2011.
