Thank you for your interest in the questionnaire concerning the concept of roles of variables. The questionnaire has been closed and this page is now inactive. You can browse the questionnaire and get feedback in the second phase but you cannot submit your results anymore.
The original page starts here:
Thank for your cooperation in this research project on using roles of variables in object-oriented programming.
We have developed a concept called "roles of variables" that formalizes intuitive concepts that you may have used in teaching novices. The purpose of this questionnaire is to validate our classification of roles.
This task is divided into three phases:
The estimated time required to complete this task is 40-50 minutes. During this time, you will learn the role concept, train yourself to recognize roles, and provide us invaluable information about the role classification. NOTE: If you feel that you are already familiar with the role concept in procedural programming you still should go through phases one and two. The set of roles is similar in these two paradigms but due to the nature of OO-paradigm there are some issues which will not appear in procedural programming. These issues will be introduced in first two phases.
Feel free to print these web pages to make them easier to read and study. When you are ready, you can enter your answers interactively.
You may leave this task at any time and return back to it later. For your convenience, direct links to all phases are given below.
