The climate is changing - What about you?

Global warming is reality, no one can deny that. Meteorological Institute's workshop offers a concentrated dose of facts about climate changing; it's causes and effects. At this workshop we will contemplate means, how everyone in person could restrain the climate changing. At the end of the workshop we will learn how to write an article or a letter to the editor about the climate changing. The best articles will be published on Karjalainen newspaper! During the workshop you'll also have a chance to know about weather forecasting with a meteorologist.

Finnish top researching on the roots of Western Culture

Build your own Robot

Come and learn how to build your own robot and how to make it move! At this workshop attendees will build alone or with a partner robots with LEGO NXT assembly kit. You can also programme the robot to move with LEGO NXT programming.

Microscope Workshop

Environment crime scene investigation (E.S.C.I) Joensuu

Come to solve conceivable environment crime with different biological research methods, literature and common sense. What has happened and who is guilty? Someone has found an illegal dumping ground (a place where someone has dumped rubbish). There are forlorn barrels and other questionable stuff on the dumping ground. Specimens are collected from the scene, some witnesses are interviewed and the group of suspects is defined. Specimens are brought to the lab. Specimens are analysed with biological lab methods. In use are also descriptions of suspects (residence etc.), witnesses' statements, literature and Internet. Purpose is to iron out if there are some harmful matters dumped in the dumping ground. By leading the clues we try to find out who is the guilty one!

Does it matter what is the color? Come and find out!

At this workshop we will get the measure of:

  1. How different factors affect how we see the colors? We will show the factors that affect sighting of colors, eg. Changes in lighting.
  2. How you can measure a color and why? We will show in detail color measurement and its background. We can also measure spectrum of an obstacle you bring along.
  3. How does a colorblind person see the World? Come and try colorblindness eyeglasses.
  4. How a cashier separate real banknotes from fake ones? We will show a color related way.
  5. What if the Sun turns to green? At this demo we will show how human sight adapts different circumstances.

Come and try how to program an ABLOY® electromechanical locking system and keys belonging to it. Your task is to add and remove opening rights of keys in this exercise, which moves on in stages. To move on from one lock to another, you need to specify the key openings by programming. After you have solved the whole task, you'll get a price!

The workshop is about our research into the pollution.of the Danube and the rivers that are in our area, presenting causes and effects and possible solution to reduce the pollution.

Nature Park "Moskvoretskii"And Its Biodiversity

We share our experience in working with ecology problems. The nature park Moskvoretskii is one of the green zone of Moscow. There are 5 nature monuments there. The part of this park is unique landscape reserve Krylatskaya hills. There are 425 varieties of vascular plants, 100 varieties of birds, many insects, mammals and other. Some of them are in the Red book of Moscow and Moscow region. There are several springs. Now the ecological situation is not well, because there are many big buildings, sport complexes, highway around landscape reserve. 62 thousands people live there. We carry out the ecology monitoring every year, studying biodiversity of flora and fauna. We send proposals how to solute ecology problems in our district to our local government. We use media to inform people in our district about ecological problems.

Multicultural Village

The multi-cultural aspect of the village is brought about by the members of the village who come from different cultural backgrounds. The objective of the village involves demostrations, participation and exchange of different playful activities from multi-cultural backgrounds for creativity and educational purposes. The activities are recreational, technological and handicraft activities from recycled and readily available materials. There are three "Huts" or groups that will contain these activities of the village: games, ornaments making and toy making. The visitors are welcomed to participate in any of these groups and interact with the pupils, parents and teachers from various schools. They are also highly welcomed to introduce and demostrate environmental sustainable activities that they see best suits any of these groups.
