(1998) Systems for Multiple-Level Teaching Materials. SIGCSE Bulletin 30(4), 59a-61a. A more thorough introduction to the SHOW system can be found in: Sajaniemi J., Kuittinen M. The basic idea is to produce lecture notes, presentation material (to be shown to the students during lecturing), and teacher's own directions from a single source. SHOWS includes a program to produce the various versions as well as a program to present the middle level material to the students. SHOW uses plain ASCII files. Features of the SHOW system include: * abolition of slide paradigm * discrimination of textual structures with colors during presentation * text editing during presentation * font and color configuration during presentation * position marking and fast jumps during presentation * textual search during presentation SHOW is distributed as a zip-file. To install SHOW unzip the file and obey instructions in the READ.ME file. To install SHOW on UNIX/Linux you need a C compiler and Tcl/Tk and on Windows you need Tcl/Tk. A short introduction to the SHOW system can be found in: Sajaniemi, J. and Kopponen M.: Three-Level Teaching Material and Its Implementation in Teaching Situation. Department of Computer Science, University of Joensuu, Report Series A, Report A-1997-6, 1997. (Also available on-line: see the Publications section in the Research page in www.cs.joensuu.fi) -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ HTML-based SHOW is a variant of SHOW that relies on HTML editors for preparing materials and HTML browsers for presentation and printing. Thus HTML-based SHOW takes only care of creating the various versions from the single source. As a result, HTML-based SHOW does not require Tcl/Tk, and on DOS/Windows no C compiler is required either. On the other hand, as a HTML browser is used for presentations, the special support of standard SHOW for presentations is lost. HTML-based SHOW is distributed as a zip-file. To install HTML-based SHOW unzip the file and obey instructions in the READ_ME.FST file. To use HTML-based SHOW you need an HTML browser.
