Papers:Papers concerned with psychological aspects of software development presenting recent results, findings and developments are invited. PPIG entertains a broad spectrum of research approaches, from theoretical perspectives drawing on psychological theory to empirical perspectives grounded in real-world experience, and is equally concerned with all aspects of programming and software engineering, from the design of programming languages to communication issues in software teams, and from computing education to high-performance professional practice. If you have any queries as to whether your topic falls within the remit of PPIG, then please do not hesitate to contact the Program Chair, Jorma Sajaniemi, saja (at) cs.joensuu.fi .
Each submitted paper will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. Papers will be accepted in two categories, Full Papers and Work in Progress Reports, decided by the Program Committee. All accepted papers presented at PPIG 2007 will appear in the workshop proceedings. Best papers will have the opportunity to be published in a special issue of Human Technology: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Humans in ICT Environments. Submission: The extended deadline for paper submission is 3.5.2007.
Submissions should be 15 pages or less and must be formatted according
to one of the two templates:

Tutorials:Tutorials are intended to provide an in-depth review of a topic of interest and should include a set of handouts outlining the material covered in the tutorial. The program committee especially welcomes proposals for tutorials presenting research methodology with hands-on exercises, and tutorials presenting practical ways to apply well-researched theories in practice. The anticipated duration of tutorials will vary between four and six hours. PPIG workshop will copy materials for participants (up to 50 pages per participant) and will provide one night free lodging per tutorial (not per presenter). Tutorial proposals will undergo a review, and they are evaluated for relevance, anticipated interest, quality, and the availability of appropriate facilities. Submission: The length of tutorial proposals must be 1-2 pages in PDF format and they must include the title of the tutorial, presenters and their background, description of the tutorial, anticipated duration, description of handouts and materials that will be provided to attendees, equipment requirements, and an abstract of at most 100 words that will be published in the workshop program. Decision for tutorial acceptance will be made within four weeks from submission. The last date for tutorial submissions is 14.3.2007.
All contributions must be submitted by email to
ppig07submissions@cs.joensuu.fi
with the title 'tutorial submission'.

PPIG Challenge:This year Psychology of Programming Interest Group Workshop will host for the first time a PPIG Challenge, where the best improvement to an existing system or notation, based on psychological principles, is rewarded. Please note that the Challenge seeks for the best idea or proposal, thus, a running (improved) version of a system is NOT required in the presentation - a mock-up, for instance, is sufficient. Furthermore, the improvement needs not to be properly evaluated, just impressive!PPIG Challenge reports will be reviewed and evaluated based on the strength of psychological support and the impressiveness of the proposal. Accepted reports presented at PPIG 2007 will appear in the workshop proceedings. The final decision on the winner will be made by the workshop audience. Submission: The challenge report describes the idea and possible evaluation. The report should cover the following aspects: underlying psychological theories/principles, description of the system or notation, description of the improvement, possible results, and conclusions. The extended deadline for challenge report submissions is 3.5.2007.
Submissions should be 15 pages or less and must be formatted according
to one of the two templates:
MS-Word template, LaTeX template.
All contributions must be submitted by email to
ppig07submissions@cs.joensuu.fi
with the title 'challenge submission'.

Doctoral Consortium:This year Psychology of Programming Interest Group Workshop will again host a joint doctoral consortium. The event is for research students at all stages of doctoral study. The event will include brief introductions by each of the student participants (on the order of 10 minutes, plus time for questions, depending on the number of students involved) and interactive sessions on process and nature of Ph.D. research. Experienced researchers, in addition to the organisers, will participate as 'discussants' to add different perspectives and to provide feedback on individual research programmes.
Participation applications:
Participation applications must include a thesis research summary and they must be
submitted by email to ppig07submissions@cs.joensuu.fi
with the title 'doctoral consortium submission'.
The extended deadline is 3.5.2007.
