State-of-the-Art Technologies in Education - Modernin opetusteknologian perusteet 175618 (5 ECTS)

Course Description

The course deals with today's and tomorrow's challenges and opportunities of technologies in education at large (K-12, vocational training, tertiary education, continuing education, life-long learning). The course will provide an overview of the contemporary technologies in education, with emphasis on the newest research. The specific topics covered in the course are mobile and virtual learning environments, Web2.0, concretizing technologies (e.g. robotics and tangible distributed learning environments), programming visualization and games. The aim of the course is to increase participants awareness of the possibilities, roles, opportunities, challenges of technological innovations in learning and education.

First lecture will be held October 30, 2008, 14-16 at 2D106

Concluding lecture will be held December 11, 2008, 14-16 at 2D106

The detailed time table of the course will be given in the first lecture. Any further lectures/presentations will be mainly given Thursdays at 14-16. The course will be given in English.

What you are supposed to do?

Students will prepare literature reviews related to the recent technological advances in educational technology. The specific focus is given to conference publications and FP7 projects in the field of technology enhanced learning. The students are also expected to prepare and give demonstrations in order to pass the course. There are also mandatory presentations sessions held by Educational Technology PhD student.

The course can be studies online. Moodle learning environment will be used in the course.
