Psychology of Programming Event
24.3.2004
Psychology of Programming (PoP) deals with the psychological aspects
of programming and tries to understand human behavior in all
programming tasks--such as design, coding, and debugging--and to
provide tools that help programmers in these tasks. PoP entertains a
broad spectrum of research approaches, from theoretical perspectives
drawing on psychological theory to empirical perspectives grounded in
real-world experience.
Attendance
The Psychology of Programming Event brings together people
interested in understanding cognitive issues of programming and in
applying this understanding to programming tool design. In
particular, students interested in these issues are welcome to the
event !
Program
The event will start at 12:15 in room B330 ("Neuvotteluhuone"). The
program consists of the following presentations:
- 12:15 - 12:50 *
Seppo Nevalainen and Jorma Sajaniemi: Comparison of Three Eye
Tracking Devices in Psychology of Programming Research.
- 12:50 - 13:25 *
Roman Bednarik and Markku Tukiainen: Visual Attention and
Representation Switching in Java Program Debugging: A Study
Using Eye Movement Tracking.
- 13:25 - 13:45 *
Break
- 13:45 - 14:20 *
Pauli Byckling, Marja Kuittinen, Seppo Nevalainen and Jorma
Sajaniemi: An Inter-Rater Reliability Analysis of Good's
Program Summary Analysis Scheme.
- 14:20 - 14:45 *
Pauli Byckling: Roles of Variables and Strategic Programming
Knowledge.
- 14:45 - 15:20 *
Marja Kuittinen, Jorma Sajaniemi: Teaching Roles of Variables
in Elementary Programming Courses.
All presentations will later be given in two international
conferences: the 16th Annual Psychology of Programming Interest Group
Workshop (PPIG'04)
and the 9th Annual Conference on Innovation and Technology in
Computer Science Education (ITiCSE
2004).
