IN SEARCH FOR A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON LEARNING OBJECTS (LOs)

Traditionally, learning objects have been characterized as containers of knowledge that  learners should comprehend in order to take the next step in their learning paths. In contrast to this view, which is surprisingly close to the behaviorist learning paradigm, we seek novel concepts which correspond to students' active and shared processes for creating new knowledge. Instead of technical reuse, we emphasize intellectual reuse which is technically based on information retrieval rather than traditional data retrieval of locating objects with a given set of properties. With this modification, we can build open objects which could be even culturally adaptable and adaptive and serve as components, for example, in mobile learning games.
