JOENSUUN YLIOPISTO Tietojenkäsittelytieteen laitos Usability Engineering / Käytettävyystekniikat EXERCISES 3/Week 13 8: X task CTA of Amica-Corelli restaurant customers. Individually or in pairs, make contextual task observation/interview for at least ten (in pairs for at least twenty) users and document it as Task Scenarios and Task Organization Models. Select only one main Actor (customer of the restaurant), but possibly include two or more key Use Cases. One of the Use Cases is to take a meal at the Amica restaurant in the Science Park, starting with coming to the restaurant, and finishing after paying for the meal. Identify what tools, artifacts and other things necessary to complete each of the tasks. Mark what are the bottlenecks of the current models. Briefly document the environment. Consider also on possible mismatches between user models and the model imposed by the environment. Based on the observations, create a Task Organization Model for each of the Use Cases. Are there any specific recommendations you would propose to the task and environment? You might consider also other users such as restaurant stuff, and other Use Cases like taking only a coffee and snack, to get the whole picture. Email the Task Scenarios and take your Task Organization Models and observation notes to exercise session. In order to complete the exercise, you have to email your answers by midnight before the demos to Minna Kamppuri (firstname.lastname@cs.joensuu.fi). 9: (2 points) Last week you have started to approach a new application of your choice (A WWW site of the Department of Computer Science, University of Usability, UE; or A program/algorithm visualization tool for introductory programming courses.) a. Identify a set of basic tasks (and possibly sequences) that main user groups will perform using your application. Have your answers documented for each of the user groups. b. Develop a set of usability goals for your application, both qualitative and quantitative. c. How would you evaluate ease-of-use and ease-of-learning usability goals for your application? d. How would you establish benchmark data for relative quantitative goals of your new application? 10: How on earth can simple things be so difficult? What is your experience with microwave ovens?
