Title: "ICT4D - where next?" (Presentation)

Much has been written about ICT4D. What new can PhD students say? This address explores three aspects of the creation of a critical ICT4D: first, it draws on material from a forthcoming book to summarise a framework for thinking about ICT4D; second it examines four areas where further high quality research is required, focusing on the definition of needs, building on indigenous practices, addressing sustainability, and designing accessible systems; and third, it reflects on the difficulties faced by PhD students in delivering truly critical research for a PhD
